'Beer Bandit' gets probation; ordered to undergo counseling

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - An Alvarado man known since 2007 as the "Beer Bandit" has pleaded guilty to using a brick to break into an Angelina County convenience store to stealing 30-packs of beer.

Kenneth Wesley Wars, 33, pleaded guilty to burglary of a building. In exchange for the plea, he accepted a five-year probation sentence. He will also undergo counseling and will remain in jail until he finishes it.

Wars must also pay a $500 fine and $275 restitution to Homer Mini Mart, located at 7075 U.S. 69 South.

According to a previous report, Wars borrowed a 2007 Kia Sportage from a Lufkin woman on Sept. 22 and used a brick to break out the front door of Homer Mini Mart.

Surveillance video from the store shows Wars enter the store, and grab a 30-pack of Budweiser and two 30-packs of Bud Light before leaving the store.
