NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches man being arrested for allegedly not registering as a sex offender injured a jailer while he was being booked in the Nacogdoches County Jail Monday morning, according to Sheriff Thomas Kerss.
Kerss said deputies served a warrant on Nickolai Savant Davis, 35, Monday morning. He is being charged with not registering as a sex offender at his Nacogdoches County residence.
"We regularly check the database and saw that he was supposed to register with us but hadn't," Kerss said.
Davis was being booked into the jail when he assaulted a jailer with a cell door, then attempted to pin him to the bars, Kerss said. Other jailers came to the assaulted jailer's assistance and placed Davis in the cell. The jailer was taken to a Nacogdoches hospital where he was treated and released.
Davis is charged with failure to register as a sex offender and assault on a public servant.
He was released from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in July on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child. He was convicted in 2000 and the victim was a 10-year-old boy.
