NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team took time out this week to raise money for a local charity. The Lumberjacks spent Wednesday and Thursday mornings soliciting donations on campus for the Harvest House Food Pantry, a local charity that provides food to the needy in Nacogdoches and the surrounding areas.
Lumberjack players and coaches took up position in high-traffic areas in front of the Ralph W. Steen Library and the Baker Pattillo Student Center at periodic intervals between classes both days to collect funding for Harvest House's Christmas food drive.
All told, the team raised more than $1,600 to donate to Harvest House in two days. According to figures provided by Harvest House, every 20 cents donated will purchase one pound of food for the needy.
SFA will also accept donations this weekend during the Etech Lumberjack Classic. The tournament features four games over two days with the Lumberjacks taking on Grambling Friday night and Chicago State in Saturday's game. SFA plays at 7:15 p.m. both nights. Central Arkansas will play in the 5 p.m. slot both days. The Bears will play Chicago State Friday and take on Grambling Saturday. Donations will be accepted at the Jack Team Rewards table located in the front of the concourse at Johnson Coliseum.
