NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The two-time defending Southland Conference Champion Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team released its 2011 schedule Director of Athletics Robert Hill announced Saturday afternoon. The schedule is highlighted by five home dates, and a trip to NCAA FBS opponent Baylor.
"We strive to play a nationally competitive schedule every season, and we have accomplished that for the upcoming year." said Hill. "Our 2011 schedule will have five games at Homer Bryce Stadium, plus trips to Waco, Texas and Reliant Stadium for the annual Battle of the Piney Woods."
SFA kicks off the 2011 season with consecutive home games beginning Saturday, Sept. 3 against McMurray. The Lumberjacks will follow that up with a showdown against 2010 FCS playoff participant, and defending Missouri Valley Conference champion Northern Iowa a week later.
The Lumberjacks lone non-conference road game will be Saturday, Sept. 17, when SFA travels to Waco, Texas, to face the Baylor Bears. The 'Jacks return home to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule the following Saturday against Texas State, who recently joined the Western Athletics Conference.
SFA will begin defense of its back-to-back conference titles when it opens league play with three-straight games away from Homer Bryce Stadium. The 'Jacks open SLC action Saturday, Oct. 1, at Central Arkansas. SFA will not return home until Saturday, Oct. 29, when they face McNeese State.
The annual 'Battle of the Piney Woods' will take place Saturday, Oct. 8, at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. The Lumberjacks close out the 2011 campaign Saturday, Nov. 19 at Northwestern State in the annual 'Battle for Chief Caddo.'
All SFA home games will be played at Homer Bryce Stadium, and are scheduled for 6 p.m. starts, except for the Oct. 29th game against McNeese State, which will kick at 2 p.m.
