NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches man has been arrested after authorities say he slashed the throat of a man who lived in the same house on Saturday night.

Eddie Bob Meadows Jr., 52, is charged with aggravated assault.

Sheriff Thomas Kerss said Meadows became angry with the victim, Bret Wayne Beall, 49, of Nacogdoches, and expressed to someone else in the house, located on County Road 552, that he was going to kill him.

Meadows then grabbed a fillet knife and slit Beall's throat with it, Kerss said. He did not sever any veins or arteries.

Other people in the house came to Beall's assistance and called 911. When Meadows saw Beall was still alive he retrieved a rifle, but could not find ammunition for it, Kerss said. The others in the house subdued Meadows and tied him up until law enforcement arrived.

Kerss said his office is still investigating what led up to the incident and that alcohol played a part.
