Elderly Angelina Co. woman comes home to find burglar

ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - An Angelina County man was arrested Tuesday evening when an elderly woman said she came home to find him standing in her kitchen.

Preston Pickard, 17, is charged with burglary of a habitation.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the 86-year-old woman entered her residence, located on Snider Road, and found Pickard standing in her kitchen. The woman said she knew Pickard because he lives down the road from him. She said she asked him what he was doing in her house and he said he came in an unlocked door to use her restroom.

The woman said she told Pickard he was not supposed to be there and he was going to call the sheriff's office. Pickard said he was leaving and exited through the back door and ran into the woods, the woman said.

Angelina County Sheriff's deputies went to Pickard's residence and said they saw him standing in the front yard, wearing the clothes the woman described. The began to speak with him and thought he was on drugs, according to the affidavit.

They asked him to remove his hands from his pockets for safety reasons and when he did, a JCPenney credit card fell out of his pocket, according to the affidavit. One of the deputies grabbed the card and saw the woman's name on it. Deputies then arrested Pickard.
