BURKE, Texas (KTRE) - A highway trooper said he arrested a Louisiana duo Wednesday night after he found a kilogram of cocaine hidden in the vehicle.

Trooper Heath White said he pulled over a vehicle driven by Damirrio Jones, 37, of Jonesboro, La., because he was speeding.

White said Jones and his passenger, Ashley Ashaunte McDonald, 27, also of Jonesboro, appeared nervous and gave conflicting stories of their travel plans to Houston. White said a background check showed Jones has a criminal history, so he asked for consent to search their vehicle, which was granted.

White said he did an extensive search of the vehicle and found a kilogram of cocaine in the lining of the trunk.

"It took me a while to find it," White said.

White arrested Jones and McDonald on charges of possession of a controlled substance. He said he caught Jones trying to hide a small amount of marijuana in the patrol unit while he was on the way on the jail, so he attached a charge of possession of marijuana to Jones.
