HUNTINGTON, TX (KTRE) – She helped them in a pinch, now they're thanking her with a community award.

Holley Tolar was working for WorkForce Solutions when Hurricane Ike tore through Huntington.

She applied for a national emergency grant program so the city could get help picking up after the hurricane.

The government paid for five employees to work for the city for a period of time.

"Really I was just doing my job," said Tolar. "I didn't realize that it was going to help so much and they actually got a full time, permanent employee out of it, so it means a lot to know that the work that I was doing helped our community."

The city had to wait awhile to give Tolar the award because she suffered a stroke and has been in treatment.

The mayor of Huntington was also given a leadership award and a special award was given to the city's Brookshire Brothers Manager Doug Everett.
