Kentucky Derby Winner gets Beer Named After Him

He has his own Web site, souvenir store and even a song. Now Kentucky Derby winner "Funny Cide" is getting his own beer.

Funny Cide Light will be unveiled Thursday in Saratoga Springs, New York. It goes on sale next week. The beer will be available in six-packs and on tap.

The brew was developed by Sackets Harbor Brewing Company and its partner, the Olde Saratoga Brewing Company.

Sackets Harbor on the eastern end of Lake Ontario is where six of Funny Cide's ten owners hail from, while Saratoga is where the horse was born and raised.

Jack Knowlton, the gelding's co-owner and a Sackets Harbor native, says he's proud to have the horse associated with a beer made by brewers from the owners' hometowns.

He says his hometown partners -- known as the Sackets Six -- were the first to test Funny Cide Light and gave it high marks.
