NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - Five people suffered minor injuries after hitting a deer Friday night on South Street in Nacogdoches.
According to the Nacogdoches Police report, a southbound Ford Explorer hit a spike buck on the 3900 block of South Street. The deer crashed into the windshield and spun around into the front passenger window.
Lt. Paul Peterson said the deer was killed on impact and ended up laying across the driver and passenger.
"That's a pretty busy street and the deer population is scarce," Peterson said. "It's definitely a freaky thing."
All five passengers in the vehicle were treated for minor injuries. Names and ages were not available.
Peterson said collisions with deer are hard to avoid.
"If they're in the outside lane then they couldn't see him coming," he said. "That deer's just looking for a chance to cross and it happened too fast."
