BEAUMONT, TX (News Release) - NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches man wanted on an outstanding warrant was arrested Sunday night when officers caught up to him after he tripped trying to get away from them, according to a police report.

Byron Jermaine McClelland, 19, is charged with resisting arrest, evading arrest, possession of a controlled substance and for the outstanding warrant of criminal mischief.

According to the Nacogdoches Police report, the officers tried to talk to him while he was loitering on the 3200 block of North Pecan Street.

"That's one of those areas with high criminal activity," Lt. Paul Peterson said. "So if someone is standing around there, we check them out."

The report states McClelland ran away from the officers into an apartment complex in the 3200 blcok of North Street before he tripped and fell to the ground. Officers caught up to him, but he resisted their attempts to cuff him, according to the report.

The officers found him in possession of crack cocaine, enough to charge him with a second-degree felony, according to the report.
