LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Games, dolls, clothing, and a Nintendo WII were among some of the exciting gifts opened tonight at the Lewis Toran Center in Lufkin.
The Neighborhood Leadership Council of North Lufkin hosted their second annual event, collecting more than $1,000 worth of donations to purchase toys and clothing for families.
Etech and Brookshire Brothers also donated hundreds of dollars worth of food to give out.
The families were chosen based on their size, income and specific needs.
"It's a blessing from God that these people would come together and do this wonderful thing. This is a wonderful thing to me. It's a miracle," said Margie Smallwood, one of the recipients.
Organizers plan to continue helping families each year. By giving back to those in need, they hope to strengthen their community by having a larger support system.
