Tyler Co. teen shot in head and killed in accidental shooting

TYLER Co. (KTRE) – Tyler County authorities are investigating what they say appears to be an accidental fatal shooting of a 17-year old.

According to Sgt. Bud Sturrock his office received a 9-1-1 call shortly before 11 Thursday night.  When they arrived at the residence of Joseph Foxworth (CR 4478/near FM 1943 East, near Warren), they found the body of James Allen Sangwin.

Sangwin, from Saratoga, TX, was dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the forehead.  Investigators said Sangwin had been visiting the home when the shooting occurred.  The identity of the shooter is not being released, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Sgt. Sturrock said he had no reason to believe the shooting to be anything but accidental.  He describes it as "an accidental shooting involving improper handling of a weapon."

An autopsy is being done in Beaumont.  No arrests were made or warrants issued.  The investigation is ongoing.
