Grand jury indicts Center policeman on perjury charge

CENTER, TX (KTRE) - CENTER, Texas (KTRE) - A Shelby County grand jury has indicted a Center Police detective in connection to his testimony at a July grand jury meeting.

An employee at the district clerk's office confirmed the indictment for aggravated perjury came Monday.

Det. Joey Haley, 36, of Joaquin, did not have knowledge of the indictment, but said he waited six hours for a chance to testify at the grand jury hearing Monday. That chance never came.

"They didn't even let me testify," he said.

According to a July KTRE report, Haley was being investigated for his testimony at that month's grand jury hearing. Haley testified on his investigation of a fight between two Shelby County deputies, which led to an indictment of Desmond McDaniel, for assault of a peace officer.

Haley was not immediately available for further comment on the indictment.
