LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - There's a new lady tiger in town and her name is "Hana." The 225-pound Hana is the newest arrival at Ellen Trout Zoo thanks to the Houston Zoo as part of the Species Survival Plan, which is a breeding program for rare animals.
The female Malayan tiger is 11 years old. Charlotte Henley, Dir. Educational Services said plans are for "Hana" to mate with their 6-year old male tiger, "Baram." She said even at 225-pounds, "Hana" is small in comparison to "Baram."
"Hana" was trucked Tuesday from the Houston Zoo. She will be quarantined for 30 days before she goes on exhibit.
