LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Lufkin Police have arrested a Lufkin man suspected in a Sunday morning kidnapping.

Police spokesman J.B. Smith said detectives received information Tuesday night that Kendrick Dundre Johnson, 24, was inside a residence in the 200 block of Warren Avenue. Police went to the residence but were not able to get anyone to answer the door.

Believing that Johnson was inside the residence but without a search warrant, the detectives watched the residence overnight. At about 9 a.m., detectives knocked on the door of the residence and a woman answered. She told police Johnson was not inside the house and she would not consent to the house being searched.

A man then arrived at the house, saying the residence was his and he did not know about Johnson being there. He consented to a search of the residence. At about that time,a third person came to the door and said Johnson was hiding inside the house.

Detectives searched the house and found Johnson hiding in a closet, Smith said.

Johnson is charged with aggravated kidnapping, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and evading arrest.

According to a previous KTRE report, officers responded to the 100 block of Broaddus Street in reference to a 911 call of a possible kidnapping at 5:45 a.m. Sunday. The caller stated a man had kicked in her door and took a 26-year-old woman, Johnson's ex-wife, from her house.

As officers were arriving, the caller gave a vehicle description. Officers saw the suspect vehicle parked in a driveway on Broaddus Street. The vehicle was occupied.

Officers ordered Johnson out of the vehicle. Johnson fled on foot. After chasing the suspect for about a minute, officers immediately returned to the vehicle where they found the victim handcuffed inside. She was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released. A handgun was also found in the vehicle.

Officers searched the nearby area for two hours but could not locate Johnson.

Kendrick's brother, 23-year-old Jeremy Johnson, of Lufkin was found in the vehicle with the victim. He was arrested for aggravated kidnapping.
