LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – For the fourth year in a row, Goodwill will be helping East Texans filling out their tax returns.
Dozens of volunteers have been trained to help you at the Volunteer Income Tax Assistant site off Hill Street in Lufkin.
They have volunteers fluent in Spanish and they can also help you open bank accounts.
Last year the group filed nearly 300 returns and generated nearly $300,000 in refunds.
If you make less than $49,000, you qualify for the free service.
Organizers said in a tough economy, they know every dollar counts.
"I was always taught that you get back what you give out," said Phyllis Handsaker with Lufkin Goodwill. "My husband is disabled and we are raising a grandson, so I relate to a lot of these people that are trying to make ends meet."
You need to bring a photo ID, your social security card, and any income or expenses you have collected from working.
The services are available Tuesday 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Thursday 12 p.m.-6 p.m. and some Saturdays.
Also, Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. the volunteers will be in Diboll at the T.L.L. Temple Memorial Library.
The services end April 18, 2011.
