Kids fish for free

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) – Hundreds of kids cast their lines in efforts to get the catch of the day.

The 9th annual Nacogdoches Kids Fish event at Lakeside Park offered free fishing for children 16 and under.

Some 800 rainbow trout were brought to Nacogdoches from Missouri so there would be plenty of fish for everyone.

Devin Yates, 12, showed up with friends and family.

He tells us he's been fishing since he was 2-years-old and can't get enough of the outdoors.

"I'm pretty much the oldest one of my family so I teach everybody to fish and they learn to like it so I like that a lot," said Yates.

He tells us, it's best to start fishing at a young age because it keeps you healthy and enjoying the outdoors with family and friends. And of course, it's a lot of fun.
