LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Lufkin Police have arrested a Lufkin mentally retarded man accused of sexually assaulting another patient at an assisted living residence.
Albert Borjas Jr., 30, is charged with sexual assault, a second-degree felony.
According an arrest warrant affidavit, a staff member at a St. Giles facility observed the victim on Sunday and asked what happened to him. He replied that Borjas sexually assaulted him.
Det. Paul Jackson stated in the affidavit that he interviewed Borjas, who eventually admitted to the assault.
Jim Hazen, president of St. Giles, said in a telephone interview Tuesday that the facility contacted the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation once they learned of the crime.
"I think our staff are well-trained," he said. "And in this instance they reacted appropriately."
Jackson obtained an affidavit for Borjas' arrest on Saturday. Borjas was booked into the Angelina County Jail on Sunday, where he remains on a $50,000 bond.
