AC Basketball Teams Split with Panola

The Angelina College Roadrunners made it two straight conference wins by taking down Panola College 77-61, but AC's Roadrunners dropped an 87-75 decision to the Ponies in Wednesday's doubleheader at Shands Gymnasium.

Lady Roadrunners 77, Panola 61

After struggling offensively throughout a four-game losing streak, AC's Lady Roadrunners appeared to have regained their shooting touch.

Four Lady 'Runners hit double figures in Wednesday's 77-61 win over the Panola College Fillies: Brittany Jefferson led the AC attack with 17 points, followed by Carenn Baylor with 16, Ashlyn Green with 12 and Tanisha Williams with 10. Carlisha Wyatt just missed the double-figure parade with eight points and seven rebounds.

Collectively, the Lady Roadrunners hit 40 percent from the field, a considerable jump from the 25 percent they shot during their losing streak.

Panola's Kelsey Beardsley hit four of her six three-point attempts to lead the Fillies with 12 points. Talisa Boyd added 10 in the loss.

AC moves to 11-10, 6-4 on the season, while the Fillies drop to 2-16, 0-9.

Panola 87, Roadrunners 75

A promising start to the game turned sour late for the Roadrunners, who committed just four turnovers the entire first half in building a 12-point lead, only to see the Ponies bounce back in the second half to take an 87-75 win at Shands Gym.

The Roadrunners put four players in double figures, led by Adrick McKinney's monster night. The sophomore from Ft. Worth finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead AC. Mike Myers added 18, Vinnie Walls 15 and Trent Brantley 10 for the 'Runners.

Panola's Charlton Jones scored 17 to lead the Ponies, followed by teammates Isaac Mack and Kenny Edwards with 16 points each, Ashton Harrell with 14 and Nick Hansberry with 10.

The Roadrunners (11-10, 3-7) will travel to Corsicana to take on Navarro at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
