LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – The unrest in Egypt doesn't seem that far from home if you're Lufkin Industries insiders.

Cairo is actually the location of their eastern hemisphere operations post. When Lufkin Industry leaders learned about the violent situation evolving, they knew they had to make sure their employees there were safe.

They decided to charter a private plane to get five ex-patriots out of the country since regular service is unavailable.

"So we get daily alerts of intelligence gathering and events that take place - anything at all that may impact us the safety of our folks," said Brian Gifford, Vice President of Human Resources.

Normal operations are still going on at the office in Cairo by the Egyptians that work there.
