East Texas prepares for slush to re-freeze overnight

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – After barely getting above freezing during the day Friday, the temperatures are headed southward again overnight.  Leaving us vulnerable to re-freezing.

The continuing cold is keeping some East Texans very busy, like plumbers.  They say tons of calls are coming in. Everything from frozen pipes, to broken water lines.

Rory Truss with Truss and Sons Plumbing doesn't believe the calls will let-up anytime soon. In fact, Truss expects a whole new crop of calls when it warms up.

"Probably by tomorrow afternoon when it starts getting warm and the pipes start thawing - people will have broken water pipes at that point," said Truss.

The continued cold also has TxDot officials on their toes monitoring the roadways.

"You will have the possibility of temperatures going so low that it could freeze again because now its slush so you got a lot more of stuff freezing up," said Kathi White, TxDot spokeswoman.

They still want you to stay home until weather conditions improve. However, if you must drive: slow down and be very careful.
