ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - By Holley Nees - email
LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Angelina County deputies have arrested a Lufkin woman who they believe may be connected to 20 burglaries in the East Texas area.
Deputies arrested Veronica Luna Rodriguez, 36, of Lufkin, on Feb. 8 on a theft charge.
Lt. Pete Cooper said law enforcement officers in Jasper County, Jasper, Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Polk County and Shelby County have also linked her to burglaries in their areas.
Cooper showed a trailer full of items they seized at her residence on Moffett Road in Lufkin, filled with jewelry, TVs, guns, laptops and more.
For now, Rodriguez is being held in the Angelina County Jail on the theft charge in Angelina County and a burglary charge in Nacogdoches County. But Cooper said his office is in the process of filing burglary charges and at least nine will be coming from other jurisdictions. She is a person of interest in about 20 total burglaries, Cooper said.
"You get downhearted and stuff like that when you have burglaries come in," Cooper said. "You just know there's not going to be any way of solving them and then all of the sudden you're able to make an arrest."
Cooper said law enforcement managed to connect Rodriguez to the burglaries after her accomplice, Arvin Padierna, of Lufkin, was arrested in Polk County. He said Rodriguez was in the area at the time and they matched her vehicle to a vehicle seen at different burglaries in the area.
Anyone who suspects some of their items may be among the ones stolen should contact the law enforcement agency which the burglary was reported to, Cooper said.
