NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Through Monday, Lanana Creek Trail users will be asked to stop and rest for a while. Healthy Nacogdoches Coalition volunteers will be asking them to take a survey.
"It's a quick survey. It's only got 10 or 15 questions on it," said coalition member Derek Head. "It's real quick, easy, but it's really going to benefit what we're doing."
The group is finding out ways to make the trail even better. Volunteers are hoping the beautiful weather will give them ample opportunity to interview many trail users.
The more information they have, allows them to provide more service. A previous survey led to emergency call stations and efforts to extend the trail to the north. Survey results helps prioritize improvements.
"The information helps out a lot in grant applications," said coalition member Mike Kelly. "Being able to support our arguments as to why we're requesting money and what type of improvements we want to make and showing it is supported by the community."
The survey finds out who uses the trail, when and for what reasons.
"It's easy access. I can take my dogs or boyfriend. It's family friendly. It's nice," said trail user Mary Crocker.
The ultimate goal is to someday have a trail loop around the entire city. The end result will be a healthier, more active community.
Volunteers conducted a survey on Friday. Volunteers will be out there tomorrow and Sunday from 7am to 6pm and again on Monday from 1pm to 6pm.
