Blackout brings gridlock to Detroit

Detroit-AP -- The blackout that hit much of the Northeast and parts of Canada left buildings and traffic lights dark in Detroit.

It closed the tunnel between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario. Tunnel employees have been in the street, directing traffic away from the entrance.In Michigan's state Capitol building, employees were evacuated shortly after the outage began. Sirens could be heard throughout Lansing as fire crews helped evacuate hundreds of workers from state building.There's been gridlock on major downtown streets in Detroit -- where police have been directing traffic through intersections.Patron's filed out of Detroit's Greektown Casino, holding cups of tokens.
