Lady Roadrunners Rally to Stop Blinn; Roadrunners Fall by a Single Digit

After a slow start to the first half, the Lady Roadrunners kicked their offense into a higher gear in the second, exploding for an 18-2 run to overtake a stubborn Blinn team that led most of the game to win by a 77-70 margin.

With the Lady Roadrunners celebrating Sophomore Night, Carenn Baylor made the most of her final home appearance in an AC uniform, leading all scorers with 24 points and five steals. Ashlyn Green, another sophomore, finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Carlisha Wyatt added 12 points and Brittney Jefferson 10 in leading the Lady ‘Runners to their seventh win in eight games.

AC trailed by 14 with just over 11 minutes to play before Wyatt and Green teamed up for a couple of buckets and Baylor dropped in a long three-pointer to start the run. Baylor's back-to-back buckets on fast breaks finally put the Lady ‘Runners on top at 60-59, and AC would maintain the lead for the final seven minutes to move to 16-11, 11-5 on the season.

Blinn's Ver'Nequa Taylor led the Lady Bucs (15-11, 7-7) with 17 points, followed by Audrisa Harrison with 16 and Marquisha Sparks with 14.

The Lady Roadrunners will travel to Paris on Saturday, with game time scheduled for 2 p.m.

Blinn 70, Roadrunners 69

E.J. Williams' two-foot jumper in the lane rolled off the rim, Mike Myers' couldn't get his putback attempt off before the final buzzer and the Roadrunners dropped another heartbreaker, falling 70-69 to Blinn College's Buccaneers.

The Bucs' Marquis Tolliver put Blinn up 70-66 with a bucket at the 1:30 mark, and the Roadrunners had three possessions over that last minute and a half to tie the game or go ahead. Williams scored in the paint to cut the lead to two points, later hitting one of two free throws to get AC to within a bucket; and the ‘Runners forced a Blinn shot clock violation with 16 seconds to play, putting the Roadrunners in position for the win in the final seconds.

That didn't happen, with Williams forced to shoot in traffic and Myers unable to shake three defenders for the potential game winner.

Vinnie Walls led AC with 22 points, with 14 of those coming in the game's first seven minutes. Adrick McKinney (17 points, 13 rebounds) and Myers (16 points, 13 rebounds) added double-doubles for the Roadrunners, who fell to 12-15, 4-11 with the loss.

Dylan Talley and Bakari Turner scored 18 points each to lead Blinn (16-11, 7-9) in scoring. Marquis Tolliver added 11 points for the Bucs.

The Roadrunners on Saturday will travel to Port Arthur to take on Lamar State-Port Arthur. That game tips off at 4 p.m.
