Abitibi Begins 'Downtime'

While students may be getting ready to go back to school, employees of one of East Texas' largest employers will be spending the next two weeks at home. More than 600 employees of Abitibi Consolidated are temporarily out of work beginning tonight. The company announced last month it would be taking it's third economic downtime of the year. The downtime will cover a two-week period with the mill beginning normal production again September 2nd.
