LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – It's official, in an effort to save money, the U.S. Postal Service will be closing down the Lufkin mail processing center, and consolidating it with operations in Tyler.
Spokesman for U.S.P.S. McKinney Boyd confirmed the decision has been made. That's after months of speculation surrounding a 90-day study they conducted to see whether shutting down the Lufkin plant would be feasible.
Back in December, the Postal Service held a public hearing where it was learned that eight jobs could be at stake.
Boyd says although all mail will now go through Tyler, customers should not see a delay in delivery.
