NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Nacogdoches man Sunday night following a 17-minute pursuit around the county.

Calvin Davis, 48, is charged with evading arrest with a vehicle, a state jail felony.

Sheriff Thomas Kerss said a deputy tried to stop Davis on FM 2609, for speeding and a defective headlamp. However, Davis ignored the signals to stop and kept driving, leading the deputy on a pursuit for 17 minutes, Kerss said.

Davis finally stopped on County Road 278 and pulled over.

"The officer asked him why he didn't stop and he even denied fleeing them," Kerss said.

Davis' speed fluctuated up to 90 miles per hour during the pursuit, Kerss said.

"That's really excessive on those farm and county roads," Kerss said. "I guess he must have realized he couldn't evade the officers and finally gave up."

Kerss said two other deputies were trying to find a way to set up roadblocks for Davis, but had a hard time figuring out where he would be driving next. Kerss also said he was not sure why Davis would not stop.

"We found a couple marijuana roaches, but he didn't have any outstanding warrants," Kerss said. "Anyway, whatever misdemeanors he would have gotten turned into a state jail felony."
