High court rules for military funeral protesters

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court is siding with fundamentalist church members who carry out anti-gay protests outside military funerals.

The court ruled 8-1 today that the First Amendment protects the protests by the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan.

The decision upheld an appeals court ruling tossing out a $5 million judgment to the father of a dead Marine. He sued church members after they picketed his son's funeral.
