Alleged Lufkin BB gun robber ruled incompetent for trial

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - A district judge has ruled a Lufkin man accused of robbing someone with a BB gun is not mentally competent to stand trial.

Dion Ray Smith, 28, will be admitted to a maximum security hospital, where professionals will attempt to make him competent.

Smith is charged with aggravated robbery in a December case in which police say Smith used a BB handgun to rob a man who was walking on South Third Street.

Lufkin Police officers found Smith in the 200 block of East Denman Avenue, but Smith ran away from them, according to the report. The officers found Smith hiding under a residence in the 100 block of Conn Avenue and arrested him. The officers found the BB gun used by Smith to commit the robbery, according to the report.
