NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office is investigating a mother's claim that her three-year-old child was kidnapped from her home on Wednesday. It is the second time the woman has made the claim.
Sheriff Thomas Kerss said deputies were called to the intersection of FM 2782 and State Highway 7 West at 7:30 p.m., where a woman said she found her daughter.
Kerss said the woman said she saw her child being abducted by two individuals from her residence. She said she followed them in a vehicle before they stopped at the intersection, and one carried a child into the woods.
The woman said the abductor dropped the child in the woods and kept running.
"We have not substantiated any details that would solidify that claim," Kerss said. "But we don't have enough information to say the report is erroneous. And we don't want to assume that. So there are some things making us look at this both ways to see if it's a true offense or a made-up set of facts."
Kerss said the same woman made a similar claim in 2008, also with a child that was 3 at the time.
