DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) - DIBOLL, Texas (KTRE) - The Diboll police chief, who is under investigation, has resigned.
Sgt. Steve Baker has been appointed as temporary interim chief.
Baker said the department learned of the Kent Havard's resignation on Thursday.
"It's kind of a shock to everyone and we're wondering what's next," Baker said. "But we'll continue to provide the service that we have."
Diboll City Attorney Jimmy Cassels confirmed Havard is part of an ongoing investigation. District Attorney Clyde Herrington confirmed the Texas Rangers office is investigating Havard, but could not comment further, pending the results of the investigation.
The Diboll City Council is holding a meeting Monday at 5:15 p.m. to "discuss personnel" in closed session. The council will take action on the discussion in open session.
Baker said he would be willing to continue working as an interim police chief if the city council wanted him to.
