DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) - DIBOLL, Texas (KTRE) - Diboll Police have arrested a Lufkin man who they said was walking around town with a gun he was not licensed to carry.

Timothy Michael Sherman, 18, is charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in a prohibited zone and evading arrest.

Det. Norman Williams said police received a call around 1:15 p.m. from a witness who said they saw Sherman with the gun at the Diboll Housing Authority, located at 702 S. First St.

Williams said Sherman then walked across the parking lot at Diboll Junior High School before ending up at the Jack in the Box parking lot, where police caught up to him. Williams said Sherman ran away from the officers and they caught him after a chase of about 150 yards. Police recovered the handgun in the vicinity of where they caught Sherman, Williams said.

Williams said the charge against Sherman was enhanced because he had the gun on school grounds.
