NACOGDOCHES (KTRE) – Never complacent just always ahead of the field. Mary Dickerson, a track star for SFA is this week's Jack of the Week. The reigning 400 meter champion has collected five Southland Conference rings in the past three years. Helping lead the Ladyjacks track and field team to their third straight indoor title, and fifth-straight track and field title for the women.
"Everybody on our team can run everything and that's what they are trying to do now. One of the best coaches he knows what he's doing and knows what he is talking about. We are just full of talent we listen, we are focused, we do everything right just about," Dickerson said.
SFA sprint coach Sean Lonergan feels Dickerson's hard work has paid off in more ways than one.
"The thing about Mary is she has made that transition it was tough for her academically and athletically. She just keeps stepping up getting better and that's the thing that's a tribute to her she's made that transition while a lot of other's have failed," Lonergan said.
Dickerson, a junior, is a fashion design major and not only does she walk the walk but she talks the talk.
"This is our fifth ring so I guess we love our jewelries the ladies love our jewelries we weren't going to let UT-A beat us this time. We had the target on our back and we said bring it, we left it all on the track and that's where it's going to stay at," Dickerson said.
The NCAA qualifier meet begins Friday and concludes Saturday. Mary Dickerson is your Jack of the Week.
