LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Lufkin Police say a man stole his father's pickup Thursday night and drove it straight to the sheriff's office to visit with a deputy. He was arrested at that location.

Carroll Wayne Kennedy, 45, is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

According to the police report, Kennedy's father was loading dirt in the bed of a 1994 Dodge pickup when Kennedy decided to get in the cab and drive off. The father called police to report the incident.

Police put out a search for the vehicle and someone with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office called police to say Kennedy had driven to the sheriff's office and was talking to a deputy. Police arrived and arrested him and did not have to go very far to book him into the Angelina County Jail.

Police spokesman Lt. David Young said he did not know what Kennedy was talking to the deputy about.

Kennedy has criminal trespass, drug possession, driving while intoxicated and criminal nonsupport convictions on his record.
