Police release details of Nac deputy fatality

BEAUMONT, TX (News Release) - NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - The Nacogdoches Police Department has released some details from a Sunday morning wreck which killed a sheriff's office deputy, but says no charges have been filed yet.

According to a press release, Deputy Morgan J. Sheppard, who was off duty, was driving a 1998 Honda motorcycle northbound on the 2800 block of North Street when he struck a 2007 Chrysler, driven by Spencer Alan Arellano, 22, of Hewitt. The Chrysler had exited a private drive onto North Street.

Sheppard died at a Nacogdoches hospital.

Police have not filed charges at this time, but continue to investigate the wreck.

"The investigation is in the preliminary stages. A reconstruction team has done an on-scene inspection and there are witnesses to be interviewed", said Sgt. Greg Sowell. "We will be awaiting the results from laboratory analysis on evidence submitted."
