ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - Two people are dead in a head-on collision five miles north of Zavalla.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Greg Sanches confirmed the two died in a three-vehicle wreck around 1:05 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 69 South. Two of the vehicles met in a head-on collision.
According to trooper Rodney Tucker, 51-year-old Bruce Gulley of Zavalla was driving his Honda Accord northbound, when he drove over into the southbound and hit Volkswagen head-on. The Volkswagen was driven by 19-year-old Megan Hollingsworth of McKinney. Gulley's vehicle then spun into the northbound lane where it was struck by a Buick driven by David Fields of Woodville.
Gulley and Hollingsworth were pronounced dead on the scene. Fields suffered no major injuries.
"No wrecks are good wrecks," Fields said. "This here the kind of thing that makes you go home and look in the mirror and ask, 'Lord, why?'"
Several emergency responding agencies, including DPS, sheriff's office, Huntington Police and volunteer fire departments and EMS agencies are at the scene.
Traffic was blocked both directions for at least two hours as crews worked the scene.
