LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – The Senior Circle line dancers enjoyed a special performance by a Lufkin native who is now a world renowned dancer, and recent bone marrow transplant recipient.
Jo Thompson- Szymanski was diagnosed with a bone marrow disease six years ago. Now she's on her way to a 100 percent recovery.
Friday, she joined her mother who teaches line dancing at the Affinity Center, and the senior circle, to celebrate 100 days of a successful bone marrow transplant.
"I was lucky. My brother was a perfect match but 75 percent of patients who need transplants don't have that sibling match and they have to get an unrelated match," said Jo.
That's why she is trying to give back with her donor drive. Jo is trying to get 100 people to register to become donors in 100 days.
