LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – A Lufkin police officer may have saved the lives of four children Saturday night when he stopped a suspected drunk driver.

According to Corporal Trent Sobolewski with LPD, around 11 PM, Officer Glawson spotted a car driving erratically northbound on South First St.

The officer observed the car swerve, even hitting a flower pot. When the driver, Anthony Bruton, 20 of Lufkin, stopped for police, he rolled into a ditch.

Sobolewski said the officer saw Bruton showing signs of being intoxicated, and was arrested.  The misdemeanor was enhanced to a state jail felony since there were four kids under 15 in the car.

The officer also found a baggie of marijuana in Bruton's pocket. He is charged with DWI with child and possession of marijuana.
