Woman dives into freezing waters to save her dog

MANHATTAN, NY – A Manhattan dog owner jumped into the freezing Hudson River Tuesday afternoon to save her beloved pooch after it suddenly decided to take a dip.  They both survived.

It all began when Molly Pfeiffer was making a routine walk with her Terrier mix, Boogie, around 3 p.m. along West Side Pier 54 at 14th Street in Chelsea, authorities said.

The two were walking and playing when suddenly Boogie dived into the chilly waters below.  The dog doesn't swim, so Pfeiffer had to jump in after Boogie into waters that were around 40 degrees at the time.  A quick call to 9-1-1 brought in emergency personnel who took Pfeiffer to a local hospital.  Pfeiffer's boyfriend who was walking with them took Boogie to their home nearby.

Both owner and dog are doing fine.
