LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – The B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator, North American p-51 Mustang and Huey helicopter are all reasons to visit the Angelina County airport this week.
The "Wings of Freedom" tour arrived in Angelina county Wednesday afternoon. The Collins Foundation is continuing their 22nd year of the tour, stopping through 38 states and 110 cities, Lufkin included.
It's a chance for folks to tour the planes, and even fly in one. Most importantly it honors our veterans, many who fought during World War II.
"It's our way for them to tell their stories and what better way than to see the planes fly, hear them and come out and talk to them. It is almost a practical application of education. You've got a history lesson right here," said volunteer and pilot with the Collins Foundation, Fred Lewis.
You can check out the display of rare aircraft until Friday at noon. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for kids. Schools can also sign up to take a tour of the planes.
