Injured gymnast Hailey Woods making up for lost time

BEAUMONT, TX (News Release) - (KTRE) – Hailey Woods is just a freshman at Nacogdoches High School but she is growing up fast and learning how to deal with adversity at a young age.

After suffering a broken right ankle and severely spraining her left in a gymnastics competition in Austin, Texas earlier this season while tumbling during the floor exercise.  Woods, a level eight gymnast has found her groove healed up and placed 12th in the state tournament two weeks ago in the Woodlands.

"I had to train with a boot on and do conditioning while the other girls were working out.  Two weeks before state I was nervous and pressured and I felt really down but all my coaches told me you can do it Hailey and pushed me through it," Woods said.

"It's really hard training.  You have to be dedicated, motivated, and work aside from your teammates and watch your teammates grow and put in a lot of training and preparation and focus to come back from an injury like Hailey has," Coach Jacqie Hamblin said.

Woods is a level eight gymnast and is the only young lady from East Texas to qualify for the regional's next weekend April 9th in Norman, Oklahoma.
