(KTRE) - Emergency responders battled a massive fire following an explosion at CHI-EPIC, a manufacturing plant in Center.

Personnel from Center Fire Department, Center Police Department, the Department of Public Safety and the Shelby County Sheriff's Office were on the scene just after four o'clock. The plant is located on loop 500 and 87 south.

Authorities say a storage tank erupted in flames around 4:15 p.m. Firefighters contained the blaze and cooled another tank after the heat from the explosion put it in danger of catching fire. Police say the explosion happened after a mechanical seal failed inside the tank. What was inside that container is still unknown.

No injuries are reported and all roads are back open. The plant manager told police repairs are already underway -- the plant could be up and running again in 30 to 40 days. Police say a more thorough investigation of what happened will continue in the morning.
