LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - (KTRE) - A Lufkin woman who a Lufkin Police officer says he caught offering sex for money did not show up for a plea hearing today and now has a warrant for her arrest.
Sandra Michelle Smith, 36, is charged with prostitution. The charge is enhanced to a felony because she has been convicted of the crime five previous times.
Prosecutor Dale Summa said because Smith did not show up to the plea hearing, he requested a warrant for her arrest on a bond forfeiture, which District Judge Barry Bryan granted.
According to police, Smith approached a plain-clothed officer in June, near the intersection of Groesbeck Avenue and North Timberland Drive, and offered sex for money. She was arrested without incident.
Summa said Smith's case is the first he has seen where prostitution is enhanced to a felony crime.
