Man evading arrest puts Lindale school on lockdown

(KLTV) - A routine traffic stop this afternoon puts a Lindale school on lock down.

Smith County Sheriff's Department was making a routine traffic stop, when a suspect took off on foot, leading the deputies on a foot chase into Velma Penny Elementary School.

The suspect ran into the main doors of the school and was in there for about 20 seconds before deputies tackled him and took him into custody.

The school was on lock-down for a period of time.  Officials at Lindale ISD will be contacting parents about the situation.

No one in the school was harmed.

The suspect is being transported to a local hospital with a possible broken arm. No deputies were hurt.

The suspect will be charged with evading arrest. There was another person in the car, but there are no details about what happened to him/her.
