HOUSTON COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

(KTRE) – Grapeland City Councilman, Aaron Wade Pennington, age 30, of Grapeland has been arrested and charged with two counts of possession of child pornography.

According to a news release from the Houston County Sheriff's department, U.S. Attorney General Office investigators executed a search warrant on Pennington's residence on Tuesday.

Following the search at 619 North Market in Grapeland, a warrant was issued after evidence gathered there was presented to District Judge Pam Fletcher, the news release stated.

Pennington was arrested on two counts of possession of child pornography with bond set at $20,000 each count. He also faces two counts of possession of child pornography with intent to promote with bonds set at $30,000 each.  He is currently out of jail on bond.

Grapeland Mayor George Pierson has known Pennington for 30 years.

"He had a vision for Grapeland because he said that one day he'd like to be mayor," said Pierson.

Those dreams could come crashing down. The city councilman faces two counts of possession of child pornography and two more for possession with intent to promote.

Pierson won't let the charges sway his opinion of his long-time friend.

"He's supported me as a councilman in the city. I'll support him," said Pierson.

Pierson tells KTRE Pennington has been active in the Grapeland community for years, working for the Chamber of Commerce and now serving the city council. Pennington's family is very well known in the agricultural world, and is involved with several business ventures.

Authorities say they arrested Pennington after searching his home. Inside, finding what's being called "evidence." The news shocks even the mayor but he's asking residents not to convict Pennington in their minds, until he is… in court.

"Refrain from this chatter unless you know the truth," said Pierson. "He hasn't been tried so as far as I am concerned he's still considered to be a good friend of mine and to be a councilman for the city of Grapeland," said Pierson.

If Pennington is guilty, Pierson says he will leave the judgment up to God.

"We all have done something wrong. Some of just didn't get caught," said Pierson.

The case is expected to be turned over to the District Attorney's office and in turn be presented to a Houston County grand jury.
