LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

(KTRE) - An Angelina County District Judge sentenced a Lufkin man to 17 years in prison Wednesday for burning down his own home.

In February, a jury found Timothy Thompson, 26, guilty of a March 2010 arson.

Thompson had elected for a judge to select his sentence.

During his February jury trial, the state told jurors in closing arguments the Keltys Street fire was a result of Thompson's anger.

In March of 2010, witnesses told authorities they saw Thompson light a pile of clothes on fire in the hallway. The house was destroyed.

The defense argued the state can't use Thompson's criminal history to convict him.

Prosecutors called his Lufkin home "a crack house" and said Thompson lied to detectives throughout the investigation.
