Family and friends prepare to say goodbye to Donna Mayberry

TRINITY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - (KTRE) – Friends and family are mourning the loss of Donna Mayberry, 44 of Lufkin, who was killed in an automobile accident this week.

"Donna had recently returned to work with us at the Lufkin Thrift Store and made a profound difference in the very short time she worked with us.  She was a friendly, bright-spirited person with a wonderful positive attitude that made her a joy to be around," Judy May, Operations Director, Family Crisis Center of East Texas (Women's Shelter of East Texas, Inc.), said.

Mayberry was killed in a two car, head-on collision in Trinity County Monday night, according to DPS.  Neither of the drivers or passenger wore seatbelts.

The accident occurred on Highway 94 about 7/10ths of a mile west of F.M. 2662 just before 8 p.m. DPS says a 2010 Chevrolet truck driven by Jordan McPike, 18 of Groveton, driving westbound on 94.  He crossed over the center stripe, striking head-on a 1997 Chevrolet truck driven by Mayberry.

Mayberry was declared deceased at 8:40 p.m. by Trinity County Justice of the Peace Sam Blair at the scene.  McPike was injured and is listed in fair condition at Memorial Hospital in Lufkin.  He suffered broken bones and lacerations.

Also injured, Kyndell McPike, 16 of Groveton, who was a passenger in the 2010 truck.  She is also listed as fair at Memorial Hospital in Lufkin.  She suffered broken bones and contusions.

A memorial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9th at Grace Baptist Church on 69N in Central.

There will be a benefit to assist Mayberry's family with expenses at the Print Shack at 2120 North Raguet Street in Lufkin on Saturday, April 16, 2011.  There will be a garage sale, bake sale and a raffle.
