NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches woman has pleaded guilty to her role in helping a murder suspect evade law enforcement following the slaying death of a Nacogdoches man in October.
Melinda Evett Long-Smith, 22, agreed to serve three years in state prison on charges of tampering with evidence and hindering apprehension.
Nacogdoches Police accused Long-Smith of assisting Nathan Welsh in evading officers who were attempting to arrest him for murder. Police believe Long-Smith assisted Welsh by providing him with a fresh change of clothes and hiding the clothing they believe he was wearing at the time of the crime.
Welsh is accused, along with Milton Brown, in the stabbing death of Thomas Wayne Grimes, 49.
